Dalia is a work for solo violin with piano accompaniment, named after and dedicated to a friend of mine from high school. When I was in high school and learning to share music content on social media for the first time, I encouraged friends of mine to follow a secondary account I had made for this content by “announcing” (to my small but hopefully appreciative audience) that upon reaching 100 followers, I would randomly select one of those followers and write a piece dedicated to them. The result of that drawing is this work. My friend Dalia was a fantastic violinist in our high school’s orchestra program, and asked me to write a solo violin work, inspired by the fourth movement, entitled Golden Voices, of my solo piano work Rainbow Suite (Piano Suite no. 1). My goal in writing this piece was to bring out the dense soul-like harmonies of the piano work which I drew inspiration from, as well as present the solo violinist with a straightforward, yet emotionally meaningful and lyrical solo line, inspired by my friend’s jubilant and outgoing nature, and our friendship. The piece is short and with clear tonal motivations, and is suitable for emerging violinists.
