Grooves 1: Warfare

Grooves 1: Warfare is the first in an ongoing series of cadences for a drumline consisting of Snare Drums, Tenor Drums, Bass Drums, and Cymbals. The cadences in this collection are connected by their sci-fi dystopian imagery. They are:
 
I. Grapeshot
II. Undercurrent
III. Bullet Train
 
Each of these cadences presents groove-oriented playing, as might be expected from the title, with unique musical elements throughout to create musical variety.
 
Grapeshot is a work which relies on the passing of short musical ideas between the various sections of the drumline. These ideas are then combined in various ways for increased energy. Undercurrent is a short tutti figure, undercut with solo fills in different instruments, and can be repeated as many times as there are members in the ensemble. Bullet Train is a marching tempo cadence that allows moments for the different sections of the drumline to step into the musical forefront.
