Grooves 2: Future Tech
Listen to the work here!
Grooves 2: Future Tech is the second in an ongoing series of cadences for a drumline consisting of Snare Drums, Tenor Drums, Bass Drums, and Cymbals. The cadences in this collection are connected by their references to technology, industry, and imagined future technology. They are:
I. K-2
II. Half Past Six
III. Seattle
Each of these cadences presents groove-oriented playing, as might be expected from the title, with unique musical elements throughout to create musical variety.
K-2 is an energetic backbeat cadence which gives particular attention to the Tenor Drums, and oscillates between this Tenor Drum feature and tutti playing. Half Past Six is a brisk 6/8 cadence with an interlude section that features the bass drums. Seattle is a cadence which allows for individual members of the drumline to play one bar solos, and can be repeated to give all the members of the drumline a chance to shine.
